Khanyisani Nkomo Advancing Crop Production Skills

Through the support of the Future Farmers Foundation, Khanyisani Nkomo has been able to specialise in the technical and scientific aspects of vegetable production at Shallowdrift Farm with the African Conservation Trust. His placement has given him the platform to apply his skills while growing into a leadership role.

Khanyisani’s key focus is on fertiliser and chemical applications in the fields, ensuring that crops receive the correct nutrition and protection. His expertise has grown to the point where he now trains fellow interns on safe and effective spraying and fertilisation techniques. In addition, he is responsible for irrigation scheduling and fittings, ensuring that crops receive water at the right times and in the right amounts. He also supports the farm team with harvesting activities, giving him full exposure to the production cycle.

The journey has not been without challenges adjusting to the physical demands of farm work and ensuring precision in chemical applications has required discipline and focus. However, Khanyisani has embraced the learning process, building both confidence and expertise.

His passion lies in sustainable crop management, with a particular interest in irrigation systems and resource efficiency. Thanks to the Future Farmers Foundation, Khanyisani has not only gained practical knowledge but also the confidence to contribute meaningfully to modern agriculture.
