Uyanda Kwaza - a Journey with Future Farmers
My Journey with Future Farmers
My name is Uyanda Kwaza, I am 25 years old, and I come from the Eastern Cape.
First Introduction to Future Farmers
I first heard about the Future Farmers organization during my WIL program in Ladysmith at Middledale Dairy Farm. The presenter was Minentle Dlamini, and through that presentation, I developed a strong interest in the program.
Joining the Organization
After learning about it, I decided to take a step forward and apply. Fortunately, I was successful in joining the organization. On 26 May 2024, I received an internship placement through Future Farmers. They informed me that I would begin on 1 June 2024 at Summer Crest Trading, a dairy farm located in Kokstad.
First Day at the Farm
I arrived at the farm on Saturday, 1 June 2024. I received a warm welcome from the farm owner and his family, which made my first day exciting and memorable.
Learning Experience
During my internship, I had the opportunity to learn from both the senior and junior managers, Thokozani and Thokozani — which was quite amusing as they shared both the same name and position. Under their guidance, I was exposed to different departments of the farm, including: pasture management, data recording, calf rearing, motor vehicle handling, herd management and dry herd management
Gratitude
I am sincerely thankful to Future Farmers for giving me the opportunity to start my career in agriculture. I am also grateful to everyone at Summer Crest Trading who supported and guided me throughout my journey. My contract was a valuable and successful experience that has shaped my career path.
