Nondalo Shandu – Dairy farm intern, Germany

My experience as far as an intern here on a dairy farm in Germany has been absolutely incredible. The work environment is truly welcoming, and I am surrounded by such helpful and friendly colleagues. It has been a pleasure working with such a supportive team, and they have made the transition into this new environment smooth and enjoyable.

During my time here, I have had the opportunity to acquire various skills that have been invaluable. One of the key areas I have focused on is calf management, where I’ve learned how to properly care for and monitor the health of the calves, ensuring they grow up strong and healthy. I have also gained hands-on experience in operating the milking systems we use on the farm, which has been a fascinating process to learn.

Additionally, I have been introduced to hoof cutting, a skill that I’ve been learning to do with more precision as I continue my training. I’ve also had the chance to learn about artificial insemination, although I have yet to perform the procedure without supervision. However, the exposure I have had so far has been incredibly valuable, and I’m eager to continue developing these skills.

Overall, this internship has been an amazing learning experience, and I’m looking forward to building on what I’ve already learned as I continue my journey here.
